A Complete Wash Day With Mielle

When I first went natural, I was using all types of products from different brands at the same time — and it showed. I was not getting the results I wanted, and I soon learned why. Most brands were not formulating their products to work with any and every other product on the market. They were building a product collection that was formulated to work together.

Once I started using full product lines from shampoo to styling, my hair health improved and my styles looked better and lasted longer. What I love about Mielle Organics is that I feel confident that I can complete my wash day from start to finish using our organic hair care products, and I know my style results will be consistently bomb.

Want to walk through my entire wash day with Mielle Organics? Let’s do it!

First, you should start with clean, conditioned, and detangled hair. This is the basis of every great style. You want to make sure you start with clean hair so that the products you’re using for the current style can work most effectively. Typically, it has been a week or two since my last wash day, so my hair is dry, my scalp is flaky, and I have lots of product build-up from my previous hairstyle.

Shampoo

I start with the Mongongo Oil Exfoliating Shampoo, focusing on my scalp to remove build-up for my scalp first, and then my hair. I follow up with the Babassu Conditioning Shampoo to condition, soften, and strengthen my hair, and prepare it for that actual conditioner.

Condition and Detangle

Once my hair and scalp are clean, I’m ready for some deep conditioning. My go-to has been the Babassu & Mint Deep Conditioner, but the Mongongo Oil Hydrating Conditioner is also a great option. I like to alternate each wash day. About halfway through the deep conditioning process, I start to detangle my hair with my detangling brush. Once my hair is completely detangled, I rinse the conditioner out and get ready to style.

Style

Set your style using moisturizing products along with holding products. Everyone’s hair is different, but mixing – aka “cocktailing” products – allows you to get the best of both world from the products you’re using. I used a nickel-sized amount of both the Brazilian Curly Cocktail Curl Cream and the Curl Mousse. While they both have moisturizing ingredients, the foam mousse adds strong hold, which is important for definition and a long-lasting style. I love the results I achieved by mixing these two products for twist-outs!

If I don’t have a need to wear my hair out the same day as wash day, I ensure I set my hair in a way that I would also feel comfortable wearing for a day or two. I find that if I let the style set for a couple days, the results once I take the set down are much better. But if I want to wear it out the same day or very next morning, I don’t unravel until it is completely dry. If time is limited, sit under a hooded dryer or use a hood attachment on your handheld blow dryer to ensure you hair is dry from roots to ends.

Once it’s time to take down the twist set, I coat my hands with the Mint Almond Oil. This adds sheen and helps my hand glide through my hair to reduce frizz.

So there you have it! A complete wash day routine using Mielle Organics products, from using natural hair shampoo to styling your natural hair. To maintain this style, I’ll re-twist my hair at night (or at least every other night) and sleep on my satin pillowcase. If I do that, I’ll be able to maintain this style until my next wash day, which is usually every seven days.

What does your wash day look like? What Mielle organic hair care products do you use and love?
