For many of us, this time of year means the vacations are over, kids are back in school, and work is starting to pick up as companies prepare to end the year. The weather is also starting to get a little cooler, and if you live on the East Coast, down South, or in the islands, hurricane season is still going strong. All of these things can mean different things as far as your hair care routine. So here are some tips to keep your hair healthy during the fall.

Try a Protective Style

During the fall, many women decide to wear protective styles for themselves and their daughters. With busy schedules for moms and their kids, this can be a great route to take to avoid daily hair styling. However, if you don’t take good care of your hair while wearing a protective style, it’s not serving its purpose.

Visit a Professional Stylist

Ensure your hair is in good condition beforehand by seeing a professional stylist who can determine any issues your hair or scalp may be experiencing. I also like to get my hair trimmed when the season changes, so the start of fall is a great time to get that taken care of.

Honestly, even if you are not wearing a protective style, seeing a professional stylist at the beginning of fall is a great plan for your hair. Winter can be brutal on our hair, so take advantage of fall to get your hair in tip-top shape with a trim and treatments to strengthen the condition of your hair.

Take Time for Hair Care

Now is not the time to slack off on your healthy hair care routine just because the temperature are mild. Regular deep conditioning helps to ensure the health of your hair. Mielle’s Babassu Oil Mint Deep Conditioner infuses hair with protein and moisture to restore dry and damaged hair. This deep-penetrating conditioner is made with complex amino acids from wheat, soy, and other natural ingredients that help restore moisture to damaged and dry hair.

You should also continue to use a leave-in conditioner as a part of your styling routine. Our Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner penetrates each hair strand, adding moisture and sealing it in. Not only does this product add shine, it also prevents frizz without weighing down the hair and aids in detangling.

Use Silk and Satin

Typically in the fall, we start to break out the hats, scarves, and jackets, which can cause friction and ultimately hair breakage. Opt for silk- or satin-lined hats, or wear a satin or silk hair covering underneath your hat. Be mindful of the fabric that scarves are made of, and choose softer fabrics like polyester and acrylic. You should try to keep your hair from constantly rubbing against the collar of your jacket as well to avoid friction.

As fall approaches this year, keep these hair care tips in mind, and turn to Mielle Organics natural hair products to stay healthy and happy. Share your autumn hair care tips in the comments, and let us know what products you use and love!
