Benefits of Face Serums
With August being the hottest month of the year here in Virginia, my skin tends to get very dry. The heat and the sun can wreak havoc on your skin anywhere during these summer months. For those long, hot days, you need something that’s lightweight, hydrating, and packs skin-reviving punch in addition to your moisturizer. It’s the perfect time to add a face serum to your daily skin care regimen.
Do you know what a face serum is? Are you curious as to why you need one, or how to use it in your skincare routine? No worries — we are going to talk about all the basics here in this post!
What Is a Face Serum?
A face serum is a skincare product formulated to penetrate deeply into the skin to deliver specific, targeted results. Serums are more concentrated with active ingredients, which is why they usually come in a smaller bottle, but a little goes a long way — you usually only need a few drops to cover your whole face. Serums can be used on a daily basis, unlike masks and peels, which should be used only once or twice a week.
Serums can come in any consistency, but they are generally lighter than oils or creams. This consistency allows serums to better penetrate the surface of the skin and address the issues they’re meant to correct. There is a vast number of face serums on the market, all with different intended results. The most popular concerns face serums address are hyperpigmentation, aging, and acne. One of the products in our
honey skin care collections is the new Mielle Organics
Pomegranate & Honey Revitalizing Face Serum, formulated to replenish and rejuvenate your skin, as well as gently improve elasticity.
Serums vs. Moisturizers
A big difference between serums and moisturizers is what serums don't include. Serums typically do not contain ingredients like petrolatum and mineral oils that moisturizers often use to keep water from evaporating from the skin. Because of this, a serum doesn’t replace your moisturizer, but it can boost its hydrating effects when they are used together.
When to Use a Face Serum
Serums can be applied twice daily, both morning and night. They should be applied to the skin after cleansing and toning, but before you apply your moisturizer and/or sunscreen. Especially during the summer, a sunscreen should be applied over the serum in the morning, and a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type should be used over the serum at night.
I personally love face serums and use them all year round. What about you? Are you currently using a face serum in your skin care routine? Have you tried our Revitalizing Face Serum? Let us know in the comments, or find us on social media!
