3 Ways to Revamp Your Old Twist-Out
April 05, 2018 3 min read

Most of us natural girls love a good twist-out, am I right? When everything goes just right and the definition is poppin’, we’re on top of the world. But there comes a time when the style is getting a little stale, and you just wanna switch it up a bit. These three simple style ideas can help you revamp that twist-out and give you a new look before it’s time to give it up.
High Puff
This style is so easy to do that it has become a natural girl staple. Not to mention that it looks good on pretty much everyone! You can use anything from a stretched-out ponytail holder to a shoelace or even a piece of a knee-high stocking as your accessory of choice.
Just brush your hair up to the top of your head, and use your accessory to pull it into place. Once everything is in position, fluff out the loose hair to your desired shape. To finish off the style, create a sleek look by smoothing Mielle’s
Honey & Ginger Edge Gel around the perimeter of your hair. Check out this
tutorial to learn how to get a cute puff with our edge gel as the finishing touch!
Frohawk
Like the high puff, the frohawk is an easy way to revamp an old style. As you wind down toward the end of your twist-out, your hair may be a bit thirsty. First, refresh it with a light spray of our White Peony Leave-In Conditioner to infuse it with some moisture, and then apply a bit of Mielle’s Mint Almond Oil to seal in the hydration and give it a little shine.
With a good amount of our Honey & Ginger Styling Gel applied, brush each side of your hair up to meet at the center. Insert long bobby pins or small hair combs along your head on either side from front to back to hold the hair in place. If you have shorter hair, part across into a few sections, and form mini puffs along the center of your head. Blend the loose hair together to create the illusion of a seamless frohawk. In this tutorial, Daye La Soul shows us an alternative way to achieve a frohawk using some of our favorite products.
Pin Up/Style One Side
Last but not least, this is a super cool way to give your twist-out a whole new shape as you hold on to the definition you have left. On a small section of one side of your hair, you can either create a few bantu knots – as seen in this
tutorial by Helecia aka Iknowlee – or flat twists –
like Ijeoma rocks in this demo – to give your twist-out a bit of an edge and some interest in its final days. Mielle’s
Pomegranate & Honey Curling Custard is a great alternative to a gel to help moisturize and smooth the hair as you work, and this style is great for shorter or tapered hair and those of you who are at that “awkward” length.
Hopefully, one of these three easy style options can help you get the most out of your twist-out, and extend the life of your look!
